Zoltán Bolyky earned his M.A. degree first in violin performance, then in conducting at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music (Budapest). Mr. Bolyky attended the masterclasses led by Salvador Mas Conde, Michael Dittrich, Marco Zambelli and Carlo Caputo. He also gained experience as a violinist in different orchestras which enriched his conducting studies.
Mr. Bolyky was in charge of the symphony orchestra of the Béla Bartók Conservatory of Music from 2007 to 2014. In 2009 under his direction the orchestra won the first place at the National Competition for Symphony Orchestras of Secondary Schools of Music, and he received a Special Prize to the Best Conductor from the Jury. Mr. Bolyky also held chamber music classes in the Conservatory.
From 2009 he has performed numerous symphony concerts and concerts for young people with the Szolnok Symphony Orchestra. For Mr. Bolyky the series of staged concerts that offered an initiation to the world of operas is of special importance: the series took place in cooperation with the Kelet-Magyarországi Filharmónia, and Mr. Bolyky was also the director of the opera performances.
In 2010 he was invited to lead the Divertimento Chamber Orchestra, that offer many young soloists the possibility for a debut. From 2015 he conducted regularly gala concerts featuring the young artists of the ’Virtuosos’ classical music talent show as soloists. Mr. Bolyky was engaged several times by the Association ArtStart to hold masterclasses for young people living in Transsylvania.
In 2014 Mr. Bolyky was appointed as conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of the Faculty of Music of the Unversity of Debrecen, and he teaches chamber music as well. In 2024 the Faculty of Music started a postgraduate course for opera singers, and Mr. Bolyky is involved as a répétiteur, musical director and conductor. He has been directing year after year the work of the Kodály Zoltán World Youth Orchestra with Tamás Vásáry, pianist and conductor, recipient of the Kossuth Prize at the Young Musicians’ Summer Academy.
His most important tasks as a guest conductor include the concert of compositions by Beethoven and Bartók performed by the Sofia Symphony Orchestra in 2015 and the concert entitled „Symphonic discoveries” performed by the MÁV Symphony Orchestra in the Palace of Arts in 2017. He was employed several times as a répétiteur at the masterclasses held by Ramón Vargas, internationally renowned tenorist.
Mr. Bolyky’s main goal is to ensure a motivating, engaging and workshop-like atmosphere during the rehearsals in order to create the prerequisites of a performance of the highest possible artistic quality.
