Sanja Romić

More than just an oboist, Sanja is a vivid performer, educator, and content creator who transfers her life inspiration and experience into conceputal concerts and music stories. Worldwide audiences highly praise her beautiful sound, charisma on stage, and sensual musicality.

Upon his invitation, Sanja joined Maestro’s three final summer tours in 2019 with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as guest principal oboe.

Since 2022, Sanja is the artist of the french instrument maker Buffet Crampon Paris, playing oboe model „Légende”

On March 8, 2024, she brought together three countries, companies and people by ordering and giving world premiere of Nimrod Borenstein’s Oboe Concerto “Légende” written for her and kindly supported by the Buffet Crampon Paris. Performance was dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, symbolically marking Sanja’s farewell from it after thirteen years as solo oboe there.

Highly active as a soloist, she performed with the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Al Bustan Festival Orchestra, Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, Salzburg Kammerphilharmone, Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Metamorphosis, Zagreb Soloists, Slovene Army Band, Erdödy Chamber Orchestra and traditional tamboura orchestra from Slovenia. 

Led by the turbulent political situation and experience while growing up as an artist in the Balkans, in 2017, she shaped programming for her first  CD. „Melodies of Nations“ promotes the idea of a Universal language of Music that brings people and less-known music for oboe and piano together. Recorded with Irish pianist Fionnuala Moynihan, it was released in 2017 under the London label „Hedone“ and Serbian „Metropolis Music“. In 2021, she released two neoclassical singles with Croatian composer and pianist Antonija Pacek for the Australian label Yellow Rose Records.

Sanja is appointed as associate professor for oboe and orchestral studies for woodwind instruments at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Serbia. Between 2011-2024 she has been solo oboe of the Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra. Beofre that she held solo oboe position at he SNG Opera in Balet Ljubljana, Slovenia. 

She enjoys chamber music and has co-founded  NSChamber Ensemble established within the NOMUS Festival. Ensemble gathers some of the finest Serbian musicians who collaborate in different formations. „NSChamber Trio“ is highly active part of it.

Active in the pedagogical field, she holds oboe masterclasses in Serbia, Ireland, Slovenia, Hungary, Lebanon, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania... 

Her first online masterclass for oboists, „BackToBasics“ appeared in June 2023 (version in Serbian), in 2024 (version in English).  Interested in movement and body mechanics, she advocates ease of playing, focusing on body-mind synergy and health care for musicians represented in her teaching concept „Playing & Living with Ease“. A podcast of the same name embraces her teaching methods with her professional coaching certification and practice, helping musicians navigate their carreer and life path in music.

With her passion and huge experience in orchestral playing, Sanja is regularly appointed as orchestra mentor and coach for wind instruments of the youth orchestras, such as: Orchestra Academy of Belgrade Philharmonic Orchestra, Al Bustan Festival Youth Orchestra in Lebanon, WBYO- West Balkan Youth Orchestra, and FAME’S—European Orchestral Performing Institute.

As an orchestra musician, she toured the USA, Europe, and China under the batons of renowned conductors, collaborating with Salzburg Chamber Soloists, Cremerata Baltica, Opera and Ballet Ljubljana, Prague Chamber Orchestra, and the Holland National Youth Orchestra. Within the „No Borders Orchestra“ project, a CD for Deutsche Grammophon has been released.

At „Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music“ in Budapest, she studied with Peter Pongratz and Gabor Dienes, graduating with honours while successively being awarded by the Soros Foundation Grant. At Mozarteum University in Salzburg, she studied with Stefan Schilli and soon after won her first solo oboe position at the Opera and Ballet Orchestra in Ljubljana. 

In 2018, she initiated the Oboe Fest in Belgrade with her colleagues to promote the oboe and reestablish the oboe school in the Balkans and has been artistic director there until 2024.

In 2020 she initiated online program Music Stories as education about classical music.  In 2023 project has grown into the curated classical music projects and concerts that are connecting Art of Music with different themes from Life.

She sees music as inspiration, the wheel of life, and art that connects two worlds—the inner and outer one. When not playing, she recharges in the nature, travel, learn and embraces the idea of music and movement while dancing Argentine tango.
