Éva Bátori is a Hungarian soprano and recipient of the titles Merited Artist and Excellent Artist of Hungary. Graduated from Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and completed her studies at the Vienna State Opera Studio. In 2022, she earned her doctoral degree from the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
She began her international career at the Leipzig Opera in Mozart roles, later collaborating on MDR’s complete recording of Mozart’s Da Ponte operas. She continued her career at the Cologne Opera, where her repertoire expanded with major Italian and German roles, including leading interpretations from Madama Butterfly to Aida. Her repertoire includes signature roles such as the Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Micaëla (Carmen), Mimì (La Bohème), and the Princess (Doktor Faust). She made her U.S. opera debut at Seattle Opera in the title role of Puccini’s Tosca (2001), returning in 2004 as Minnie in La fanciulla del West. She performed to great acclaim at New York’s Avery Fisher Hall and has toured extensively in Asia, including appearances in Japan and China with the Vienna State Opera and the Hungarian State Opera. During her years abroad, she collaborated with artists such as Alfredo Kraus, Peter Konwitschny, and Claudio Abbado. After returning to Hungary, she performed alongside Éva Marton, Attila Vidnyánszky, and Zoltán Kocsis. At this stage of her career, she inspired Emil Petrovics to compose his final work for her. She is currently known for her interpretations of Richard Strauss roles and rare operatic repertoire, such as Shostakovich’s Lady and Reimann’s Goneril.
She is widely recognized for her work as a vocal pedagogue. She regularly gives masterclasses in Hungary and internationally. She taught for ten years as a vocal coach at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in Budapest, four years at the University of Szeged Faculty of Music, and five years in Vienna as a lecturer. Since 2013, she has been an appointed vocal coach at the Hungarian State Opera. She is currently Head of the Vocal Department at the University of Debrecen Faculty of Music and a visiting lecturer at the Department of Voice, Speech and Swallowing Therapy at the Semmelweis University in Budapest.
She is the founder of the Contemporary Vocal Competition in Memory of Emil Petrovics, established within YMSA in 2015.
