Kovalcsik András

He graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, then from the University of Debrecen. He obtained his doctoral degree at the Academy of Arts, Banska Bystrica in 2014. He is a founding member of the Danubia Symphony Orchestra and the Ewald Brass Quintet. From 1998 to 2017 he was a member of the symphony orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera, from 1998 he is a member of the Intermodulation Chamber Ensemble and from 2005 of the UMZE Ensemble. In September 2018, he founded the Debrecen Horn Ensemble with his students. Since 2003, he has regularly held courses both in Hungary and abroad, and has been a jury member and chairman of national brass music meetings and competitions.

He has won several prizes as a member of the Ewald Brass Quintet. 1st Prize and Special Prize in Narbonne, 1998; 3rd Prize in Moers, 1999; 3rd and 2nd Prize in Munich, 1999/2001; 2nd Prize in Passau, 2000; 1st Prize in Bremen; 1st Prize and Special Prize in Jeju, South Korea, 2001; 2nd Prize in Athens, USA, 2001; 1st Prize in Munich, 2000, 2003, 2005; Artisjus Prize, 2002; Liszt Ferenc Prize, 2005; Gramophone Prize, 2008; Prima Junior Prize, 2008.
